A celebration of Isadora Duncan’s past, present, and future with a multi-cultural dance production highlighting pieces from the traditional Duncan repertoire as well as Sano’s original choreography accompanied by musicians performing classical and contemporary music.

This internship is an opportunity to organize, develop and support "Mary Sano and Her Duncan Dancers" a classical modern dance company. Under the artistic director Mary Sano, the assistant will work on administrative aspects of planning a stage performance as well as other tasks which include fundraising, strengthening local contacts, community outreach and marketing/PR. In this 12 week session, the class will be introduced to basic Duncan Dance Technique and Choreography to the music of Schubert, Brahms and Chopin. This dance, based on natural and flowing movement, brings out individual expression through connection of body, mind and spirit.

Who's Mary Sano?
Mary Sano, artistic director of the Mary Sano Studio of Duncan Dancing, is a protégée of Mignon Garland, who founded the Isadora Duncan Heritage Society (IDHS) in San Francisco. A native of Japan, Sano began to study Duncan dance with Garland in San Francisco in 1979, and established the Japanese branch of the IDHS in 1983.
